A quiet day with Brian Castle
Journeying towards reconciliation
Brief information about the day
We often hear about nations, communities and individuals journeying towards reconciliation, but not so much about the inner journey of reconciliation which affects all the others. Recognising that reconciliation lies at the heart of the Christian faith, this quiet day reflects on the journey of reconciliation to which God is constantly calling each of us. The role of memory, forgiveness, victimhood and embracing the other will be explored as will the recognition that inner struggle is not a mark of failure but a sign of vibrant humanity. We will discover that the journey towards reconciliation is as important as the destination.
Brian Castle, has been Bishop of Tonbridge, vice principal of Ripon College Cuddesdon, Oxford, a lecturer in Geneva and a parish priest in the UK and Zambia. He has written two books on reconciliation (Reconciliation: Journey of a Lifetime, SPCK, 2014 and Reconciling One and All – God’s Gift to the World, SPCK, 2008) as well as books on mission and hymns. He is currently assistant bishop in Bath and Wells, an honorary research fellow at Exeter University and visiting scholar at Sarum College, Salisbury.
The day will include space for individual reflections
