Springtime for the Spirit ~ Emerging into life in response to God's invitation. A quiet day with Chris Chapman in conjunction with the Retreat Association. Springtime for the Spirit: Emerging
Springtime for the Spirit:
Emerging into life in response to God’s invitation
My beloved speaks and says to me:
‘Arise my love, my fair one,
and come away;
for now winter is past,
the rain is over and gone.
The flowers appear on the earth;
the time for singing has come…
Song of Solomon 2: 10-12
Winter breaks and spring emerges. A seed planted in earth sends a shoot upward seeking light. Tree buds swell with the gathering day.
Like springtime, God’s Spirit in our spirit continually awakens us, inviting us into greater freedom, life and fruitfulness.
How do we hear or sense this invitation? At one time it might be an unexpected burst of energy; at another, a sense of dissatisfaction, restlessness or unease. We are being drawn beyond the limits of the life we have hitherto known. The process will be challenging but life-giving.
Springtime for the Spirit will provide the space to sense God’s invitation to you at this moment and to explore the shape of your response. It might be that you are being drawn into a more trusting and life-giving relationship with God; or perhaps God’s desire is to free you from the harms and fears of the past so that you can begin to be comfortable and creative with who you are. Or is God drawing you to reassess the shape of your life so that what you do reflects more closely the desire of your heart?
The day will interweave input with time for personal prayer and reflection supported by a range of resources.
We will draw on biblical imagery of growth, the poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins and T.S. Eliot, and the writings of Ignatius Loyola, John of the Cross, Teresa of Avila and Benedict of Nursia.
